UNHCR Representative Visits Institute of Kidney Diseases, Peshawar

On 6th December 2024, Ms. Phillipa Chandler, UNHCR Representative in Pakistan, visited the Institute of Kidney Diseases (IKD) Hospital in Hayatabad, Peshawar. She was accompanied by key members of the UNHCR team, including Mr. David Mulbah (Senior Protection Officer, OIC), Mr. Chandu Bhandari (Program Officer), and Dr. Amanullah (Assistant Public Health Officer). During the visit, Ms. Chandler inaugurated a newly installed CT Scan machine generously donated by UNHCR to enhance diagnostic services at IKD. She also planted a tree on the hospital premises, symbolizing UNHCR's commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship. Hospital Director, Dr. Riaz, provided a comprehensive briefing on the range of medical services available at IKD, with a particular focus on the hospital's dedication to serving refugee patients. Discussions during the visit emphasized strengthening future collaborations between UNHCR and IKD to improve healthcare delivery for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Afghan refugees. This visit underscores UNHCR's continued support for enhancing healthcare infrastructure and fostering partnerships to benefit host communities and refugees alike.
